The Bicyclers and Three Other Farces

The collection presents four short farces built on domestic absurdities and theatrical mishaps. In the lead piece a timid novice attempts to master a new craze under the tutelage of confident acquaintances, prompting pratfalls, furniture disasters, and escalating bickering as well-meaning helpers transform a drawing-room into a makeshift stage. Other pieces continue the same vein, using misunderstandings, exaggerated manners, and quick physical comedy to satirize social pretensions and marital relations. Scenes rely on rapid dialogue, stage business, and situational irony to produce light, fast-moving comic tableaux rather than deep character study.
