Terry / A Tale of the Hill People

The narrative follows Terry, a young New Englander whose hunting and reflective beginnings give way to service in the tropics, where he becomes entangled with communities in Mindanao and the town of Davao. He faces local dangers, personal rivals, and a charismatic leader named Malabanan while learning the customs and beliefs of hill people. Episodes include a stricken village, a confronting python, and a woman called Ahma; a pursuing major and efforts to introduce new institutions alter village life. The story traces Terry's moral choices, moments of cultural exchange, and the uneasy interactions between outsiders and highland communities.
