About This Book
Two young girls stage a comic Christmas Eve scene in which they rig a makeshift telephone to reach Mrs. Santa and persistently demand gifts, ringing until Mrs. Santa becomes exasperated. Detailed stage directions specify props and physical business—standing on a chair, a receiver set apart, and a trap door equipped with skates and a muff—so performers can execute the gag. The escalating ringing culminates in the trap releasing the skates and muff, which the girls seize in triumph. The short, domestic piece is written for playful performance with minimal cast and simple staging.
