About This Book
An ape-man, devastated by the loss of his partner, withdraws from civilization and wages solitary guerrilla warfare against enemy forces in an African war zone. He moves through savannah and forest, confronting soldiers, wild animals, hostile tribes, and apes, alternately raiding camps, rescuing captives, and sabotaging enemy operations. The narrative follows episodes of tracking, aerial wreckage and the discovery of an airplane, a siege within a fortified city, and violent encounters with frenzied groups. Underlying the action are meditations on grief, the tension between human and ape identity, and the corrosive drive for revenge that complicates his loyalties.
