Suomenkielinen Runollisuus Ruotsinvallan aikana / ynnä Kuvaelmia Suomalaisuuden Historiasta

This study surveys Finnish-language poetry and related materials from the period of Swedish rule, organizing evidence by major eras—Catholic, Reformation, the seventeenth–eighteenth-century Swedish ascendancy, enlightenment Fennophile activity, and the later Porthan period—and examines manuscript and printed sources, hymnody, ballads and legendary songs. The author analyzes language use, social origins of composers, and the role of printed religious texts in stabilizing Finnish, discusses collected examples such as Saint Henry ballads and Ritvala laments, and documents archival research and collectors’ contributions to reconstruct poetic tradition and national linguistic continuity.
