A collected anthology of traditional Finnish proverbs and sayings presented with an introductory essay explaining selection criteria, variant forms, and linguistic and moral considerations. The bulk is a wide-ranging assortment of concise maxims addressing daily life, work, prudence, family, poverty, faith, and social behavior, often given in short, pithy phrases; many entries are numbered and frequently accompanied by noting of multiple meanings, regional variants, and potential foreign or scriptural origins.
