About This Book
A four-act drama set in Berlin follows a community of stonemasons and their families as daily labor, loyalty, and police intervention collide at a stoneworks yard. A veteran master and his ailing daughter preside over household and workshop scenes while clerks, foremen, and laborers manage contracts, quarrels, and suspicions of theft. An ex-convict seeks steady work but fears social exposure, and episodes move between intimate domestic interiors and noisy outdoor labor across short time jumps. The play examines solidarity, social stigma, economic pressure, and the moral compromises demanded by survival in an industrial neighborhood.
