Star Born

Descendants of off-world settlers adapt physically and culturally to life on an alien planet, where coming-of-age journeys send young people into uncharted coasts, plains, and ruins. They develop new sensibilities, including enhanced patience and forms of nonverbal contact, and form practical alliances with indigenous aquatic and terrestrial species. Exploration and barter reveal remnants of a vanished prior civilization, complicating claims of mastery and inspiring careful caution. Through travel and discovery the community reassesses inherited Terran customs, confronts environmental challenges, and grapples with what identity and continuity will mean for generations born under a different sun.
