Stairway to the Stars

The story follows John Andrew Farmer, an awkward assistant editor who becomes entangled with an eccentric inventor known as Judge Ray and his device that combines color television and super-radar to image the ocean depths. A demonstration from a small launch goes awry, prompting underwater investigation and a series of absurd miscommunications that culminate in a strange multi-tentacled creature appearing in Farmer's living room. Comedic discomfort, romantic misfires, and playful satire of scientific showmanship drive a fast-moving tale that juxtaposes everyday embarrassment with speculative contact and technological whimsy.
