Spawn of the Comet

Orange, baseball-sized meteorites fall worldwide and resist analysis, their uniformity suggesting seeds. A reporter investigates and visits an astro-lithologist and his daughter at the university observatory, where the objects hatch into a swarm of enormous, fiery, antlike creatures that rapidly threaten populated regions. The narrative follows scientific examination, public alarm, and armed responses as characters combine investigation, daring flights, and experimental weaponry to study and repel the invading brood. Themes include the limits of human knowledge, the relationship between journalism and science, and collective survival in the face of an unprecedented natural menace.
