About This Book
The story follows Ollie Keith, a chronically starving, gaunt junk collector whose life of poverty and failed prospects leaves him perpetually hungry. Small discoveries — a nut, a bottle of whiskey that oddly sharpens his hunger rather than dulling it — lead him to a cheap restaurant where successive free meals still leave him unsatisfied. Observers in the kitchen exchange uneasy explanations about spoiled stew and accidental contamination, and they debate whether his condition should prompt medical attention as his desperate search for sustenance continues.
