About This Book
A short, single-act drama follows a princess who becomes obsessed with an imprisoned prophetic figure whose denunciations unsettle the court. Her fixation culminates in a seductive performance before the ruler, after which she demands the prophet's execution and receives his severed head. The play sketches the tangled relationships among the princess, her mother, the tetrarch, soldiers, and the executioner while probing themes of desire, power, religious zeal and hypocrisy, aesthetic decadence, and the fatal consequences of unchecked obsession.
