Ross Grant, Tenderfoot

A medically inclined young man leaves his uncle’s practice to serve in a remote mountain mining camp, bringing an emergency chest and practical surgical knowledge. He becomes the improvised camp physician, treating injuries and illnesses while learning the routines and dangers of prospecting life: avalanches, snow-blindness, long treks, and the persistent threat of claim-jumpers who use legal maneuvers. Encounters with rough but sometimes decent companions, a humiliating setback, a perilous search, and arduous journeys test his nerve and skill, and the hardships of the mountains forge physical courage, quick thinking, and emerging leadership.
