About This Book
The play follows two young people who meet, fall into secret, intense love despite a bitter feud between their families, and marry clandestinely with the help of an ally. A chain of street brawls, challenges, miscommunications, and failed reconciliations escalates hostilities, producing exile and desperate schemes. A botched plan to reunite the lovers results in their deaths, which finally provokes remorse and a tentative end to the families' enmity. Recurring themes include fate, the destructive consequences of entrenched hatred, impulsive passion, and the fatal effects of miscommunication.
