About This Book
A three-act comedy follows a circle of theatre people and municipal figures whose rehearsals, romances, and vanities collide in comic misunderstandings. A struggling writer quarrels and banters with actors during rehearsal while an actress wavers between passionate attachment and social security, a jealous husband threatens domestic peace, and a pompous mayor and his wife exemplify civic respectability. Scenes alternate between stage rehearsals and household salons, using farce and satirical dialogue to probe tensions between artistic pride, romantic desire, and commercial or social ambitions, exposing mercenary and sentimental motives under witty social critique.
