Pursuit

The narrative follows Jack Langdon, a skilled pursuit pilot reassigned to train on heavy two-seater De Havilland scouts and bitterly resentful of leaving fighter duty. At an observation school he confronts clumsy machines, blunt instructors, and inexperienced observers while testing tactics and pushing the planes’ limits. Through bold flying he discovers that the heavier scouts can be handled to contest lighter pursuit craft, and he adapts techniques to protect timid crewmates. The story traces his efforts to prove both the machines and his own approach in aerial engagements, blending daring, instruction, and determination to remain an active combat aviator.
