About This Book
The story follows a lone prospector who becomes stranded in a Venusian desert when his sandcar overturns and two tires are destroyed. Unable to obtain credit from a garage and facing the desert's hazards, he strips the vehicle to essentials, carries limited water and equipment, and treks across dunes following mineral traces. Persistent and resourceful, he locates a rich outcropping of goldenstone and hands a sample to an automated surveyor that records the find, contrasting frontier isolation with commercial rules and technological assistance.
