About This Book
A solitary hunter ascending a hill encounters a stranger who explains he conducts clandestine surveys to determine whether planets may join a Galactic Federation. He describes evaluating artifacts, public attitudes toward peace and space travel, and using telepathy to bypass deceptive answers; planets judged unprepared can be quarantined. After the interview the visitor departs in a swift disc-shaped craft, leaving the narrator uncertain about humanity’s readiness for membership.
