Polly in the Southwest

The narrative follows Polly Brewster and her circle of wealthy, adventurous friends as they leave an extended cruise and travel across the American Southwest. Episodes alternate between light social comedy—droll encounters, parties, practical jokes and eccentric guardians—and episodic incidents of danger and surprise such as holdups, mountain mishaps near Humphrey’s Peak, and ruses devised by scheming acquaintances. Interwoven are personal interludes: letters exchanged, a companion’s backstory, brief vacations, and civic festivities in Albuquerque, all leading to the party’s eventual arrival in Los Angeles, with a tone blending youthful amusement, travelogue detail, and gentle lessons about friendship and responsibility.
