Phases of Irish History

A series of twelve lectures tracing Ireland's development from prehistoric times through medieval centuries. The author examines the people’s origins and physical and linguistic evidence for Celtic settlement, evaluates pre-Celtic inhabitants and regional divisions, discusses classical descriptions, and follows the conversion to Christianity and the spread of literacy. He treats Irish presence in western Britain and describes a cultural flourishing, the impact of Norse incursions, medieval institutions, and the Norman conquest, concluding with a later rally of Irish forces. The narrative combines archaeological, linguistic, and textual analysis to reassess traditional accounts and clarify continuity and change across phases of Irish history.
