About This Book
The story follows three returned sailors—Peter Russet, Sam Small, and Ginger Dick—whose reunion is disrupted by the arrival of Peter's retired, respectable uncle, a strict teetotaler. They spend several episodic days showing him London sights, including the British Museum and the Zoological Gardens, sharing teas and shop visits while privately juggling plans for drink and nightlife. Comic tension arises from Sam's hopes of financial advantage, the sailors' rough manners, and the uncle's prim decorum, producing a series of humorous scenes about hospitality, pretension, and the gap between public appearances and private desires.
