Elias Lönnrot

Elias Lönnrot (1802-1884) was a Finnish physician, philologist, and folklorist, best known for his pivotal role in compiling the Finnish national epic, the "Kalevala." His work in collecting and editing Finnish folk poetry significantly contributed to the preservation of Finnish cultural heritage. Lönnrot's travels across Finland and Karelia inspired his writings, which include notable works such as "Elias Lönnrotin matkat" and various collections of folk songs. His dedication to documenting the oral traditions of the Finnish people has left a lasting impact on Finnish literature and identity.
