About This Book
The story follows a mechanically gifted youth known as Motor Matt and his companions as they sail a submarine around South America, encountering escaped convicts and a mysterious steamship. When mutineers seize the vessel and bind the crew, the young engineers and sailors must use knowledge of engines, tanks, and periscopes to outwit their captors, execute daring dives and escapes, and signal for help. Encounters with a Chilian man-of-war and shifting loyalties lead to confrontations, revelations about the conspirators, and a final turn that sets the survivors on a northward course.
