Madame Gilbert's Cannibal

The story follows an imperious, globe-trotting woman who takes command of a sophisticated oil-fired yacht and the assorted crew and passengers who accompany her to remote islands. Episodes range from technical marvels and shipboard banter to nights in tropical straits, disputes over property and legal maneuvering ashore, and comic encounters with island inhabitants. Interwoven are father–son tensions, romantic complications, and moral tests that provoke surprising loyalties, culminating in a dramatic departure and a final refusal that settles several personal contests. Wit and satiric observation of manners sustain the narrative.
