About This Book
A biographical account follows the personal and spiritual journey of Isaac Hecker from his early years through periods of intellectual searching and communal experiments such as Brook Farm and Fruitlands. It describes his inward life, struggles, and eventual entry into religious life with the Redemptorists, ordination, missionary work, and later separation to found a new religious community. The narrative presents his spiritual and philosophical reflections, pastoral initiatives including parish missions and the use of the press, and public lectures. It also recounts participation in contemporary ecclesiastical events, a prolonged illness, and reflections near death, interweaving journals, letters, and recorded sayings to illuminate his doctrine and character.
