Lesson for Today

The story follows a woman and her young child as the planet's surface lies devastated by atomic explosions; they survive inside an invisible protective dome that preserves a small patch of life while the surrounding world becomes ash. As they journey in search of the child's father, they find abandoned towns, scarce food, and overwhelming exhaustion, while an unseen alien presence studies and comments on their behavior, sometimes supplying provisions and ultimately removing the child for examination. The narrative shifts between the survivors' struggle and tender care and the aliens' detached scientific observation, touching on survival, compassion, and the objectification of vulnerable life.
