The narrative follows Cyrille, a young man seated in his family's farmhouse who revisits memories of a passionate, destabilizing affair with Denise and of his schooldays, wine-soaked travels, and academic rewards. Returning to an exhausted rural estate, he contemplates failing soil and the burdens of inherited land while alternating between nostalgia, physical craving and listless drunkenness. Scenes move between intimate sensory recollections and observations of the farm's daily labor, tracing themes of desire, heredity, rural decline and inner unease as the protagonist confronts the gap between past indulgences and present responsibilities.
