About This Book
A small merchant brig endures a violent storm, with the crew sacrificing masts and making emergency repairs to prevent foundering while a handful of passengers wait in uncertainty. Shortly afterward a black corsair arrives, fires upon the crippled vessel, and forces it toward capture, provoking fear and resignation among those aboard. The assault is overseen by a severe, bearded commander whose presence directs the boarding. The account interweaves dramatic survival at sea with the sudden menace of piracy and the ensuing trials of courage, resourcefulness, and exposed vulnerability.
