A band of companions endures violent subterranean collapses and finds their passage beneath the Thames blocked by rockfalls and rising danger. While tunneling through ruined galleries they discover an aged barrel of highly unstable gunpowder with a long sulphured fuse, whose condition prompts cautious analysis. With retreat impossible and a massive boulder sealing their route, the group's leader conceives an improvised plan to use the gallery's layout and the powder's force to dislodge and project the rock into the river. The episode compresses tense suspense, technical improvisation under pressure, and the comrades' mutual loyalty as they confront the risk of death and a daring escape attempt.
