Karolingsche Verhalen

A collection of medieval Carolingian legends rendered into modern Dutch that retells four traditional narratives. The pieces portray courtly ceremony and honor, disputes that erupt into sudden violence, kin-driven vengeance, alliances with outlaws, martial tests and quests, and a chivalric romance threaded through trials of love. The editor preserves the narrative rhythms of older sources while adding concise commentary and linguistic modernization, presenting folklore, legal custom and devotional sentiment as dramatized episodes that illuminate medieval social codes and recurring narrative motifs.
