Journal of a second expedition into the interior of Africa, from the Bight of Benin to Soccatoo

A coastal-to-interior travel journal that follows an expedition from the Bight of Benin across the Kong mountains into the West African interior, tracing routes through Eyeo/Katunga, Boussa on the Niger, Kano, and Soccatoo. It records day-by-day movements, landscape and town descriptions, encounters with local rulers and caravans, and navigational observations including latitude and longitude. A companion journal continues from Kano back toward the coast and reports the leader’s death and burial. Appendices present translated Arabic documents, vocabularies, a meteorological table, and maps and charts that clarify routes, rivers, and regional geography.
