The play stages confrontations between popular faith and elite skepticism as followers bring gifts, the sick are healed, and rumors spread that he might be a returned messiah; authorities worry his presence could provoke political unrest or interfere with preparations for war. Through scenes of domestic pleading, aristocratic debate, and public demonstrations, the work examines faith, social division, and the clash between moral authority and state power.
