A collection of English verse renderings of Greek Orthodox liturgical hymns, accompanied by an extended introduction and explanatory notes, gathers forty-seven pieces—chiefly from the Triodion and Pentecostarion—with thirty-five appearing in English verse for the first time. The translator describes his selection method, offers historical and linguistic commentary on Greek hymnody and its neglect in English-speaking hymnals, and provides indices and musical and liturgical references. Renderings include Paschal, Lenten, and festal material alongside samples from earlier Greek poets, aiming to bring the theology, imagery, and devotional rhythms of the Greek services into dignified English verse.
