She describes towns and regions, including the Marne valley, Montbéliard and surrounding Protestant communities, Besançon, Ornans and the Loue, and the Jura highlands with their salt and wine districts, and sketches daily life among peasants, townspeople, artisans, and clergy. Observations mix practical travel notes and cultural contrasts with evocations of scenery that attracted painters.
