About This Book
A storyteller at a children's party is pressed to relate a fantastical narrative about a wooden nutcracker that comes to life and leads a battle against armies of mice. Interwoven is a framed fairy tale about a princess named Pirlipate cursed by a malicious mouse-like being, the magical Krakatuk nut that can break her enchantment, and the mechanician and astrologer who search the world to find it. The action shifts between Christmas domestic scenes, toy armies and combat, illness and recovery, voyages to strange realms including a kingdom of dolls, and eventual revelations that lift the curse and settle the tale.
