A collected retelling of classical myths that moves from cosmic origins and the reigns of primordial rulers to the rise of the Olympian gods, then through famous heroic cycles and tragic houses. It includes creation accounts, the Titanomachy, monstrous adversaries, and individual tales such as Prometheus and Epimetheus, the flood survivors, Orpheus and Eurydice, Phaëthon, Sisyphus, Perseus, Heracles and Theseus. Extended narratives treat the Argonauts, the Trojan War and the wanderings homeward, with later episodes about Aeneas and the Nibelung tradition. The edition is abridged and arranged for school readers, with selective retellings, occasional source notes, marginal epic references, and illustrative plates.
