About This Book
A sequence of episodic stories follows a group of young Camp Fire girls as they meet in urban playgrounds and coastal camps to lead games, songs, and communal rites. Episodes range from a dramatic rescue of a runaway horse and piano to lakeside council fires, traditional dances and outdoor banquets, dune and tide challenges, and a small mystery about a found coin. Through cooperative problem solving, leadership tasks, skillful outdoor work, and imaginative play, the girls negotiate friendships, responsibility, and initiation into shared traditions.
