Friends in Need / Ship's Company, Part 2.

The story follows a small riverside community whose three drinking companions respond to unemployment and hardship by organizing a benefit for the supposed widow of one of them after he is believed to have drowned. The two friends arrange a Friendly Lead, circulate anecdotes, and marshal local sympathy while the man thought dead adopts a disguised, transient existence across the river and quietly enjoys the comforts his own fund produces. Comic tensions arise from vanity, miscommunication, and the improvised effort to stage a public mourning, exposing contradictions between loyalty, self-interest, and the rough camaraderie of working-class pub life.
