Four Young Explorers; Or, Sight-Seeing in the Tropics

A party of young travelers separates from a larger expedition to spend weeks exploring Borneo and its rivers, hunting, fishing, and studying local flora and fauna. They navigate steam-launch voyages up the Sarawak, Sadong, and Simujan, encounter crocodiles, orang-utans, and gibbons, and visit Sea and Hill Dyak villages to observe customs and long-houses. Rejoining the steamers, the group continues a tropical tour of Southeast and East Asian ports, making stops for sightseeing along the China coast, excursions up the Yangtze, and a river approach to the Chinese capital, with the narrative combining adventure, natural history, and descriptive travelogue.
