Fairy Legends and Traditions of the South of Ireland

This collection gathers forty condensed tales from southern Irish oral tradition, organized by creature or motif — shefro, cluricaune, banshee, phooka, merrow, dullahan, fir darrig — and sections on treasure-lore and rock-stone legends. Narratives recount encounters between villagers and otherworldly beings, transformations, omens of death, enchanted lakes, and musical and treacherous fairy tricks, often framed by brief explanatory notes and sectional summaries. Ballads and an appendix correspondence supplement the stories, and the edition presents abridged commentary and illustrations after the author's designs.
