Dr. Kometevsky's Day

The story follows a couple and their acquaintances as the sudden disappearance of Mars's two small moons unsettles a future society. Scientific explanations struggle against lingering superstition and the resurfacing theories of a long-discredited theorist, prompting a small investigative group to seek correlations among reports, dreams shared by people with extrasensory perception, and arcane lore. Personal anxieties about security and family relations intersect with public attempts to understand whether planetary positions can change or reality itself is becoming disordered, leading to meetings, exchanges of evidence, and an unsettled acceptance that familiar physical laws may no longer be wholly reliable.
