Down South; or, Yacht Adventure in Florida

A young yachtman and his companions undertake an extended cruise around Florida, navigating coastal lights and rivers, visiting springs, lakes, and coastal inlets. The narrative alternates shipboard daily life and social interactions with sequences of exploration, fishing, hunting and encounters with local dangers such as alligators and snakes, as well as interpersonal conflicts and small-town intrigues. Chapters trace excursions up the St. Johns and Ocklawaha rivers, visits to plantations and towns, and episodes of rescue, mystery, and a shooting incident, combining travel vignettes with the protagonist's personal growth and duties aboard the yacht.
