About This Book
A holidaymaker named Mr. Fred Carter is misidentified by a coastal family as the man who once courted their daughter and then vanished. He is seized by her father and brother and led home, where the daughter rejects him as an imposter despite a striking resemblance. After brief humiliation and dismissal, he returns of his own accord and claims to be the missing suitor, declaring an intention to make amends, leaving the household in comic uncertainty over identity and intentions.
