About This Book
A young newspaper reporter arrives in the city and, after illness, lodges in a lively boardinghouse where communal life supplies both comedy and consolation. She becomes romantically involved with a charismatic writer, marries, and must confront his subsequent mental collapse and the upheaval it causes. The story alternates brisk, humorous sketches of everyday urban companions with more serious scenes of duty, regret, and resilience, following her effort to balance work, relationships, and survival while seeking emotional independence amid changing circumstances.
