Dahinten in der Haide: Roman

The narrative follows Lüder Volkmann, a solitary drifter who returns to the heath and rests on a windswept rise, attending to birdsong and the scents of spring. Through vivid natural description and episodic flashbacks he recalls voyages abroad, raucous city nights, failed loves, and the companionship and burial of an Indigenous woman, while reflecting on class, identity, and the pull of his ancestral farm. Alternating lyrical landscape passages with intimate reminiscence, the work examines longing, resilience, and how memory and environment shape a wandering life.
