About This Book
The author examines Korean and regional museum specimens of a murine rodent in the Sylvaemus group, comparing them with European Apodemus flavicollis to reassess species limits. Cranial, dental, and external distinctions are identified — differences in mammary formula, length of incisive foramina, position of posterior palatine foramina, reduction of the M1 posterointernal cusp, relatively larger M3, and broader mesopterygoid fossae — and the absence of a buffy throat patch is noted. Type material assigned to praetor and nigritalus are reinterpreted as subspecies, the species is reported from wooded habitats across Korea, Manchuria and into the Altai region, and a new subspecies from North China is described.
