About This Book
A collection of mountaineering narratives and essays that mix vivid expedition accounts, practical route and altitudinal observations, and reflective history of Himalayan exploration. The first portion follows travels into high Asian ranges with detailed approaches, pass crossings, glacier and summit attempts; later sections turn to climbs and landscapes in the Canadian Rockies, the Alps, the Lofoten Islands, and the mountains of Ireland. Interspersed are technical notes, sketches, natural-history remarks, and contemplative pieces on the motives and dangers of mountain travel.
