About This Book
A continuous medieval chronicle narrates political and military affairs through sequential episodes of campaigns, sieges, truces and treaty negotiations. It follows the movements and decisions of rulers, nobles and envoys, recounts the captivity and ransom of a monarch, and describes diplomatic ceremonies, the occupation and sale of fortresses, and the ordinary hardships inflicted on communities. The text alternates event-driven reporting with notices of public rejoicings and religious observances, and is presented with editorial apparatus preserving original spellings and variant readings for particular passages.
