Chasing an Iron Horse; Or, A Boy's Adventures in the Civil War

Set during the Civil War, the narrative follows a band of Union volunteers led by Andrews as they undertake a bold covert mission to seize a Confederate train and sever railroad communications toward Chattanooga. A teenage courier, George Knight, and his small terrier become involved in the planning and execution as the raiders slip into enemy territory, encounter guerrillas, and face a dramatic locomotive chase in Georgia. The plot moves through clandestine preparation, infiltration, the perilous run on the rails, pursuit and escape, emphasizing improvisation, endurance, comradeship, and the constant hazards of wartime adventure.
