Brother Against Brother; Or, The War on the Border

Set in a border state on the eve of internal war, the story follows two neighboring families split by opposing loyalties and the escalating local unrest that draws them into conflict. A loyal planter and his sons take possession of military supplies, raise a defensive company, and establish a small fort, while demonstrative secessionists and ruffian bands provoke confrontations. The narrative moves through night expeditions, recruiting drives, skirmishes along creeks and roads, and larger engagements near the plantation, using action-driven episodes to portray how divided communities, personal convictions, and ordinary households become entangled in the practical and moral trials of wartime.
